Session 10: Speaking the Truth in Love with Brian Brodersen (Details)

Session 1: Encountering Jesus (Luke 8:26-56) with Simon Lawrenson

When hopeless, outcast, desperate people encounter Jesus, they learn that there is no situation that is beyond the loving reach of the Saviour. In this study we look at three people who have gone past the point of hope and are desperately seeking help. How does Jesus respond to people who are otherwise despised and rejected? What lessons can we learn about suffering and our relationship with God?

×

Session 2: Truth or Lies (Genesis 3) with Cheryl Brodersen

Truth or Lies … A time to explore some of the lies we believe and their inception at the very beginning of man’s creation. We will explore the outcome of these lies in the lives of those who believed them. We will then contrast these lies with the glorious truth revealed to us through Jesus Christ and the wondrous benefits of receiving the truth that is in Christ Jesus!

×

Session 3: Jesus with Sinners (Luke 5:27-32) with Richard Cimino

There have been, and still are within modern church culture, religious constructs that tell us who the gospel is for, and who it is not for; where the Gospel should go, and where it cannot go. But at the end of Luke 5 Jesus blows up every one of those constructs by going after a man the Israelites despised and avoided—He then went to that man’s house to eat dinner with other men and women the religious people in Israel would never be caught dead with! What happens in the “house of Levi” is so simply staggering! The most irreligious and immoral people in Israel were not in any way uncomfortable around the Holy God of heaven come in human flesh and—without for a moment compromising His Holiness—God was not uncomfortable with them.

×

Session 4: Love + Truth in Action (Matthew 28:20) with Brian Sumner

When we think of Jesus, we often think of an event in history, a time and place where God intervened and did something special. Yet God has always been intervening, always doing something other-worldly and special. What was it Jesus came to say? What was it He helped us to understand? What was it He had planned for us after He ascended? We will be considering the specifics of Jesus’ call to us, both in saving and sending, and how God had planned for our ears to hear, hearts to be opened, and our crosses to be carried, for such a time as this. Boom.

×

Session 5: A Scandal Called Grace (Luke 7:38-50) with Tim Chaddick

The difference between Christianity and every other belief system and religion in the world could be summed up in one little word: grace. But what does that say about God, and how does it work out in our lives? If God is forgiving, does it matter if we’ve tried hard to behave well? And for those of us who haven’t, isn’t God just lowering His standards by overlooking our behavior? Pastor Tim Chaddick will address these questions and more from Luke 7:38-50 on how God’s shocking and costly grace enables us to live new and grateful lives.

×

Session 6: The Love of God (Ephesians 1:15-23, 3:14-19) with Mike Neglia

The love of God for His children is so mindblowingly counter-intuitive, so unrestrained, and so staggering that the apostle Paul gets down on his knees and prays that we will somehow be able to grasp it. Using Paul’s prayers as a guide, Pastor Mike Neglia will remind us of the life-changing truth of God's love.

×

Session 7: Grace and Truth in our Lifestyle (John 8) with Andy Frost

Jesus interacted with all sorts of people—the religious elite, the social outcasts, the military leaders, the ordinary people. People often left His presence transformed, profoundly challenged by grace and truth. In following Jesus, we often try to simplify things. Our faith can easily become a list of rules and regulations, but what would happen if, like Jesus, we lived out grace and truth in all of our relationships? As we delve into Jesus’ encounter with the woman caught in adultery, let us practically consider what that would look like.

×

Session 8: True Discipleship (John 8:31-36) with Steve Vickery

There are many people in the world today who profess to be a follower of Jesus. Some of those people are true disciples. Others are not. How do we know the difference? What does it mean to be a true disciple of Jesus Christ?

×

Session 9: True Love Warns! (Hebrews 2:1-4) with Joel Turner

Have you been neglecting your walk with God? How would you know if you have? In Hebrews, the writer stops in chapter 2 to issue a warning—Don’t Drift! We will be looking at the importance of ‘staying the course’ in our lives and walk with Jesus. That “Drifting” is one of the easiest things to fall into as a believer, and we need the loving warning to “Anchor in” to Jesus! Pastor Joel will take us through the main ways we drift and how to get back on course.

×

Session 10: Speaking the Truth in Love with Brian Brodersen

The need for clear and bold communication of the truths of God’s Word is perhaps greater today than at any time in recent history. We are seeing right before our eyes the wholesale rejection of the Bible’s divine inspiration, authority, and teaching. This is happening not only outside the church, but even more importantly and more alarmingly, inside the church. In response we are called to speak the truth, but we must make sure that we are doing that in love. In this session Brian Brodersen will look at some of the specific truths we are to speak to both the church and the world today and the attitude and tone that we must have as we speak them.

The Wonder of the Human Ear with Prof. Andy McIntosh

The talk addresses the intricacy in the design of the mammalian ear, and in particular the human ear. There is minute and detailed engineering involved in the movement in air of acoustic waves which then transmit vibrations through to the mechanical movement of three tiny bones in the ear, then to movement in liquid, then movement of a special membrane splitting the sound into its component parts by frequency, then movement of very tiny hairs, and finally through electro-chemical bonds generating electrical signals to go to the brain. This has caused even Dawkins to write of the three inner bones in “the mammalian ear, where they constitute an exquisitely delicate bridge, to transport sound from the eardrum to the inner ear.” [Dawkins, R. The greatest show on earth – the evidence for evolution, Black Swan, 2009, p.293]. Rather than give glory to God who has clearly stated (Prov 20:12) “The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them,” evolutionists insist that these three tiny bones gradually changed their location as they moved from the jaw bones of reptiles. The logic of this is beyond comprehension when one understands the near perfect acoustic transmission involved in this system. Prof McIntosh brings to bear his acoustic engineering background to show that the frequency analyser we all have in our ears is not only an example of brilliant engineering design, but is also a tribute to the beauty of what the Lord has made in sound sensory mechanisms, and the ability to appreciate voice and music.

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well” Ps 139:14

…that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.” Rom 1:19,20

Freedom in Forgiveness with Colin Chambers

Reverend Colin Chambers met Nelson Mandela in 1977 and spent 8 years as his pastor, confidante and friend in the notorius Robben Island prison, where Mandela spent eighteen years of his twenty-seven year incarceration. He was one of very few visitors allowed access to the future ANC leader and President. He told BBC Radio 5 live: "I think Mandela would be disappointed, and I think the area that would disappoint him more than any other area, would be the levels of corruption...there wasn't a corrupt bone in his body." Reverend Colin Chambers is a former Lieutenant commander in the South African Navy, who was a Prison Chaplain for fifteen years, including 8 years to Nelson Mandela and other political prisoners on Robben Island.

The Truth About Suffering with Brian Brodersen

One of the most perplexing issues we face as human beings is the issue of suffering. C.S. Lewis referred to it as: The Problem of Pain. Why does God allow suffering is a question that has been asked a billion times over? It’s a question that many people are asking right now. In this session Brian Brodersen will share from some of his own personal experiences in his decades long battle with ME, and ultimately point to God’s answer to the suffering of Job.

The Unlikely Role of Temptation in Who You Will Become with Tim Chaddick

Temptation isn’t merely about winning or losing a battle. It’s about discovering who you truly are. And what matters most. On a daily basis, we are all tempted to enjoy the gifts of this world while making the Giver optional or irrelevant in our quest for life. But what if, in God’s purposes, temptation is not merely an obstacle to overcome but an opportunity to flourish in faith? Living in the truth exposes lies and turns moments of temptation into character-shaping opportunities, powerfully displaying our true identity as followers of Jesus.

How to Flourish in Marriage with Matt and Dianna Kottman

Marriages often flounder because we tend to view it as being about our own happiness. Although a healthy marriage does bring great joy, the key to marriage is something that God has created you to flourish in. You may never change your spouse, but that doesn't mean that you cannot be all God has called you to be in your marriage.
