A Journey into the Unknown

By Robert Marshall

Hello there! My name is Robert and I hail from the land known as The North, in sunny (I wish) Yorkshire. I have moved around a great deal in my life, but how I ended up in the South West, more specifically Cornwall, I can only put down to God.

In the summer of 2016, I returned to the UK from South Africa, not completely sure where life would next lead me. I met up with friends and went to the summer festival Momentum, sure in my calling to youth work and determined that I would come back with at least some idea of where I would be spending the next year of my life. Little did I know that the next five years of my life were being laid before me.

I joined SWYM (South West Youth Ministries) in September 2016 and it has been a whirlwind of adventure, learning and growth in my faith and personal life. I’ve seen parts of the South West that I didn’t even know existed and I’ve made friends for life. My journey with SWYM has recently brought me down to Cornwall to take on the role of Creation Fest Youth and Community Outreach Coordinator. I’m so excited to take on these roles and see what God has in store over the coming year.

Part of my role is to help with Glow, Creation Fest’s monthly gatherings for young people in Cornwall and Devon. I’m excited to share the heart of Glow and to be a part of sharing Jesus and the Gospel with the young people of the South West through worship and different activities that engage with the Bible and prayer on a monthly basis. Our prayer is that these gatherings help young people get to know God and get to know each other better, making their faith real and relevant to their every day lives.

Over the next year, I’m excited to grow in my own faith and walk with Jesus, and to invest in my community and create relationships that produce joy and grace!
