At the age of 22, Brian became a Christian. In 1996, Brian and his wife Cheryl moved to London, England, with their four children. In 2000, Brian and Cheryl returned to their native California in order to transition into the pastorate of Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa.

Brian Sumner is an Evangelist/Pastor/Speaker who came to faith in 2004 at the height of his professional skateboard career.
Born in Liverpool England, at age 15 Brian transplanted to America to become part of Tony Hawk’s Birdhouse Skateboards, building a successful decade plus long career riding for some of the biggest skate companies in the world. In 1999 Brian was married and soon he and his wife Tracy were expecting their first child. Within just a few years of marriage, without either of them having faith, they were soon fighting, struggling, and divorced. This left Brian feeling angry, depressed and even suicidal. A year of separation led Brian in search for truth, ultimately to prove there was no God, with the goal of proving life had no purpose.
As Brian challenged the different faiths, asking tough questions and digging into Gods Word, he had a life changing experience leading to his coming to faith in Jesus Christ. “I was going to God to fix my life, while He was, through His Word confronting the issue of sin, the cursed world we live in and the reason He sent His Son Jesus. This “Good News” was new to me! One night, at home in my office, while divorced from Tracy, crying out to God, He opened my eyes, awakened my heart, and I experienced His love and forgiveness exactly as His Word declares. I promised to get baptized, use skateboarding however God saw fit, and even, if He led re-marry my ex-wife.” Tracy came to faith within three weeks having her own God encounter, and they were re-married soon after going on to have two more children.
As God began to work in their lives, rebuilding their marriage, He also opened doors for Brian’s faith to be shared. I AM SECOND – BILLY GRAHAMS MY HOPE – CBN – along with other television channels, radios shows and other media began sharing their conversion and reconciliation story internationally. Speaking at Youth Events, Churches, Outreaches, Festival, Recovery Centers, Schools, Missions Trips, Mens Conferences and the like soon became the norm for Brian. In 2013 Brian’s home church Branches affirmed his call and encouraged him to step out in full-time Ministry being diligent, and being available to share. This also meant raising full time support, as people began to partner, and more recently local churches who also affirmed this call. The next few years, ministry became more and more specific and soon it became obvious their where three primary areas of consistent focus.
MISSIONS – MARRIAGES – MINISTRY
MISSIONS – Evangelizing people locally and internationally, training, equipping, leading missions trips, or speaking at outreaches and festivals, The Great Co-Mission has been a part of our every day lives, as it should be for all believers. MARRIAGES – God powerfully restored our marriage and family, leading to our encouraging people, counseling people, witting a book, as well as traveling to speak. Marriage Ministry is a normal part of our everyday life. MINISTRY – Being ready in and out of season means just that. No day is the same, be it speaking at Branches as part of the teaching team, other churches, schools, colleges, universities, rehabs, our bi-weekly SKATE NITE, weekly WE GATHER Street Ministry, Conferences, or a Missions trip to Costa Rica, ministry encompasses whatever the Lord may bring.
Brian also sits on the board of various ministries like D2L also helping to produce film projects like the “Hardflip” movie, the SkateBible movie “Foolishness” which Brian co-produced, wrote, and directed that went on to win “best Evangelistic film of 2013″. In 2015 Brian published his first book, “Never Fails”. 30 chapters focused on sharing Gods truth, revealing their struggles and victories as a tool to use as they continue sharing the work God can do in marriages. Brian is currently working on a book, workbook, and video series focused on training up people to live out The Great Commission. 2019 also seen the launch of his “Foolishness” Podcast.

More than that, whether you think you need him or not, he is a man who is bound, by his love, to speak. The role of the amateur: to look the world back to grace.”
