(Tuesday, 14th July 2015 – Launceston) Phil Pechonis, founder and director of Creation Fest, passed away one year ago today. Phil’s legacy shaped the festival in many ways. He had great vision where many doubted. He had great faith where it seemed impossible. He had great passion, for his family, for the Southwest of England, and for Jesus.
We are so thankful for his life and his legacy, and above all, we are thankful that the work of God did not end with Phil Pechonis. There is still a vibrant, ongoing, faith-filled work of the Spirit in and through Creation Fest, and we still expect that miracles, vision, and salvation will come through the festival to Cornwall and beyond.
On this day, we honour his life. We give thanks for the 14 years he poured into serving the Southwest of England and proclaiming Christ here. We thank God for his family, and the ways they supported that vision. We thank God for the work that was left behind and the joy that carries us forward.
See you in eternity, Phil. Thanks for setting the vision and paving the way for God’s work today.
(Tuesday, 15th July 2014 – Launceston) It is with heavy hearts that the Creation Fest organising team announces the passing of its co-founder and Festival Director Philip Pechonis.
Phil passed away early this morning in a Florida hospital surrounded by family and close friends. Last November he was diagnosed with bladder cancer and while on a recent family trip to southern Florida he was admitted to hospital due to a severe infection.
For more than a decade, Phil and his family have ministered in the Southwest of England pastoring churches in Woolacombe, Perranporth and Exeter. In 2002 he and Brian Brodersen launched a one day outreach event in Woolacombe that would eventually grow into the weeklong festival in Wadebridge we know today.
"Phil was an extraordinary minister of the gospel whose impact for the kingdom will prove to be greater than any of us realise now. He was a man of faith, vision and action. His ministry in the Southwest of England was truly apostolic and he leaves behind a legacy of souls saved, men and women discipled in the faith and churches planted" – Brian Brodersen, Executive Director, Creation Fest.
We ask that you keep his wife Megan and children Max, Zach, Katie and Alex in your prayers. As we prepare for the upcoming festival, we do so with a pivotal member of our team gone but knowing that the Lord will be celebrated and glorified during the week.
Phil ran his race well and is now welcomed into the arms of his Saviour with the comforting words "Well done, good and faithful servant".
